Statistics

More cases of missing children are reported today than ever before, not only in the United States, but throughout the world. The exact number of children missing throughout the United States each year is unknown; however, the firgures most often quoted are between 1.5 and 1.8 million.

The following statistics were provided by the Unted States Department of Justice in May of 1990 and other studies. They create an awareness of the number and type of crimes being committed against our children.

  • More than 114,500 attempted child abductions are reported each year.

  • 3,200 to 4.600 children are abducted by strangers each year.

  • More than 450,000 children run away from home each year in response to neglect and physical or sexual abuse.

  • More than 438,000 children are lost, injured, or otherwise missing each year, with 47% of these children under the age of four.

  • More than 4,000,000 convicted child molesters live in the United States today.

  • One out of every four girls will be molested by the age of eighteen.

  • One out of every seven boys will be molested by the age of eighteen.

  • On average, each pedophile violates approximately 150 kids in his/her life.

  • More than 40% of convicted sex offenders who prey on children will become repeat offenders.
